Job description

Purpose of this Position:

The Advisor, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) is responsible for the administration and support of the health, safety, security and environmental programs for DP World Saint John Inc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of standardized HSSE systems, programs, policies, training, campaigns and programs to prevent injury and ensure compliance with regulations and DPW standards.
  • Collaborate with the DPW World Canada team (all functions) to standardize HSSE processes across the BUs when possible.
  • Assist in the development and implementation in SE improvement plans aligned with the regional strategy and DPW requirements.
  • Audit HSSE programs to reduce loss, recommending and implementing actions for improvement.
  • Create a network of internal and external alliances to implement policies, programs, procedures, standards, training and processes.
  • Ensure incident prevention/abatement through detailed injury and incident reporting, data analysis and investigation compliance. Implement standardized, actionable HSE metrics and communication.
  • Support Safety Programs between all Saint John operational terminals as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Post-secondary training in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences/ Hygiene or similar field.
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role with experience coordinating Safety and/or Environment Programs; prior experience working in an industrial and/or unionized environment is an asset.
  • Willingness to take initiative to solve problems and a desire to identify process improvements.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives with all departments and levels.
  • Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
  • Self-starter with a positive, hands on approach and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Exceptional computer skills and ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Fluent in English. Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
