Safety Advisor

The Safety Advisor's role is to support the organization in identifying operational, physical, and environmental factors that may cause or contribute to injury in the workplace, and in achieving and where appropriate exceeding compliance with applicable safety legislation. 

 

Based in Montreal, the Advisor will be a source of guidance and information for Safety Committees and Representatives, Business and Facility Operations, and Human Resources at locations in Quebec and Ottawa Region.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Support Operations in identifying and controlling hazards in the workplace and meeting safety legislative requirements
  • Support Safety Committees and Representatives in effectively executing their duties 
  • Guide leaders in reporting and investigating incidents, and determining and implementing corrective actions
  • Assist with implementing, monitoring, and reporting on strategic safety initiatives
  • Provide guidance on internal complaint resolution and work refusal
  • Communicate with regulatory bodies on matters related to workplace safety
  • Maintain expertise in safety legislation and best practices and an understanding of their impact on operations

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Minimum 3 years experience in occupational safety
  • Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, use critical thinking, take initiative and be resourceful
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Windows applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Ability to travel within the region
  • Reliable access to a personal vehicle
  • Experience conducting safety audits and providing safety support to technical operations is an asset
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry is an asset
  • Achievement of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset
