Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is responsible for establishing and managing public infrastructure, including: provincial highways and roads, highway bridges and structures, water and flood control works, and northern airports and marine services. Within the department, the Construction Support Services Division is seeking to fill an Aggregate Technician Position.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5.0 driver's licence.
  • Must be able to travel to remote work sites within the province by ground, water or air transportation.
  • Must be physically capable to perform the duties related to the position, such as but not limited to, lifting and carrying up to 45 kgs., standing and walking on unlevelled ground for long periods of time, bending, crouching and crawling in a confined space.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, and statutory holidays, and work under adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary education in Geography / Geomatics / Resource Management / Civil Engineering Technology or a suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Relevant experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software such as ArcGIS
  • Experience with mapping grade Global Positioning System (GPS) concepts including GPS setup, data collection and data correction.
  • Extensive knowledge of Crown Quarry minerals, including identifying aggregate bearing landforms, as well as policies and procedures related to protecting and allowing access to them.
  • Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of The Mines and Minerals Act and/or the Quarry Minerals Regulation 1992.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to create clear and concise work related documents.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, or advise on work efforts with internal and external stakeholders.

Duties:
The Aggregate Technician performs advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) functions related to the Aggregate Resources program and coordinates the Global Positioning System (GPS) collection and data management of aggregate sources in support of the Inventory & Exploration programs. Also, provides technical and advisory support to the field collection crews and is responsible for independent decisions related to hour to hour operations, insuring department standards, specifications, policies, procedures and Workplace Safety and Health Acts are followed.
