A career as an Analyst or Associate, in the Project Finance - Portfolio Management team at National Bank means acting as a specialist, responsible for credit monitoring, analytics, internal reporting and the ongoing management of a portfolio of Project Finance and related structured loans. In this role, you will be a team player utilizing your critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail within a front office capacity.
Your role:
  • Perform in-depth due diligence, internal risk rating assessments and Annual Reviews
  • Process amendments and waiver requests, including legal documentation review, submit internal credit applications and address any related risk follow-up inquiries
  • Be involved in new credit submissions to ensure smooth transition of coverage support to the Portfolio Management team
  • Proactive credit monitoring through reviews of compliance reports, certificates, financial statements and other data sources
  • Analyze financial statements, project cash flow models and other financial information
  • Track compliance of covenants and other credit metrics
  • Keep up to date on new credit structures and market trends
  • Maintain various internal portfolio dashboards, databases and trackers
  • Collaborate with various internal teams, including origination, risk/credit, syndication and other product partners
  • Contribute to special projects, ad hoc initiatives as required
Your team:
This position reports to the Vice President, Project Finance - Portfolio Management in Calgary. The Project Finance team is a leading franchise within the National Bank Financial Markets - Corporate & Investment Banking (“CIB”) group.
You will be an integral part of the Project Finance - Portfolio Management team in the Calgary office supporting the team in the credit underwriting and Portfolio Management of Project Finance transactions. Focus is on North America with some exposure to global project financings. Clients are located throughout North America, so some limited travel will be required.Our training programs use on-the-job learning to help you master your role. You’ll have access to colleagues with a wide range of expertise, experience and backgrounds to enrich all aspects of your development.
Prerequisites:
  • Completion of an Undergraduate Degree or Graduate Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Accounting, or another relevant field
  • 1-4 years of experience in Project Finance, Investment Banking, Infrastructure, Engineering/Development, Commercial/Corporate Lending, Capital Markets, or other relevant areas (years of experience commensurate with the Analyst or Associate role)
  • Strong financial modeling skills using spreadsheet software such as Excel
  • Able to multitask and manage conflicting priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactivity and business judgement
