Duties

Delivers interpretive and educational presentations, programs, and activities to provide visitors with opportunities to discover, appreciate and learn about the significance of the natural and cultural heritage of Thousand Islands National Park.
In this role, you will:
  • Present meaningful, captivating, and enjoyable interpretation/education programs and activities to deliver park messages.
  • Greet and orient visitors; deliver reception, public safety, and interpretive messages.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve programs and services.
  • Demonstrate interpretation techniques and practices and provide mentorship to new staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure that rules, procedures, and regulations of the National Park are followed.

Work environment

Located in the Thousand Islands region, Thousand Islands National Park sits in the corridor between Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. The park offers boating, camping, hiking and day-use experiences on the mainland and at island locations. We have a passionate team that puts visitor enjoyment first each day. We are looking for individuals with a passion for the natural world and who want to share their knowledge with visitors and help build meaningful connections to this special place.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic induvial who loves working outside in various weather conditions when delivering presentations and programs. The successful candidate will have strong tact and interpersonal skills to engage curious visitors and to work cooperatively with colleagues. The Interpretation team requires a caring, engaged, and optimistic team member who has a strong orientation toward client service and education.

A secondary school diploma or PSC approved alternatives or acceptable combination of
education, training, experience and/or traditional knowledge relevant to position.

Degree equivalency

  • Experience in providing service and communication to the public.
  • Experience in delivering messages/information to groups.
  • Experience leading/guiding groups.

  • Experience in children’s programming, storytelling, theatre/preforming arts, museum education, interpretation, classroom instruction, and/or activity facilitation.
  • Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to wear a Parks Canada uniform.
  • Willing and able to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays.
  • Willing and able to stand/walk/hike for prolonged periods of time.
  • Willing and able to perform certain physical tasks such as light facility cleaning duties.
  • Willing and able to work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.
  • Willing and able to work from various locations.
  • Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR (level C and AED).

Conditions of employment
