Job Description


The City of Merritt has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Aquatic Supervisor with the Community Services Team. With the direction and guidance of the Manager of Community Services, the Aquatic Supervisor leads the Nicola Valley Aquatic Center (NVAC) team and oversees the day-to-day operations of the NVAC in order to provide a safe, fun and welcoming atmosphere for all customers in the community, employees and others.

As the Aquatic Supervisor, you will work in partnership with other City staff, customers, and other stakeholders to advertise and coordinate events in addition to overseeing the delivery of aquatic programs and services including aquatic lessons and special events (holiday events).

Leading the NVAC team with your stellar interpersonal skills, you will provide front-line supervision, guidance and coaching to train and further develop the aquatic center staff. Reporting to and in collaboration with the Manager of Community Services, you will provide feedback and input, assist with staffing and coordinate scheduling of NVAC staff for approval. As the key point of contact for the NVAC, you oversee the implementation of City policies and procedures and ensure that staff are informed and complying with policies and other regulations. You will maintain filing and keep records, analyze performance metrics, order supplies along with other administrative tasks, and perform custodial duties to ensure the facility is maintained in good repair and submit work orders for repairs when required.

You understand how to run a large, demanding facility and are committed to the safety of yourself and your team. You have a strong attention to detail and are highly organized with an eye for continuous improvement. With your experience, you can support operations by mentoring, training or to provide coverage as necessary. You are service-oriented and provide timely and effective resolution of customer complaints, using solid judgement, decision making and effective communication skills.


Qualifications

  • Extensive experience and certifications in lifesaving, instructing aquatics and First Aid, supplemented by administrative experience in an office setting with an understanding of business processes, staffing supplemented by supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to lead and support an organizational culture that promotes a safety culture and customer service excellence.
  • Interpersonal communication and leadership skills including listening, and ability to provide meaningful feedback, coaching and training/ developmental opportunities for staff.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to integrate knowledge of regulations, concepts, practices and procedures in daily practices.
  • Ability to monitor operations, compliance and progress towards goal, coordinate resources and materials.
  • Ability to execute tasks efficiently, resolve issues with good judgement and provide reports.
  • Ability to operate related equipment as well as being efficient on computers and software programs.
  • Physically ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Additional Information


This position is within the union bargaining unit, and the rate of pay is $31.46 (2024 Cupe rates).
