About Chalo Independent School Society
Fort Nelson First Nation’s vision for a Strong, Healthy, Proud, and Self-Reliant community, guides our school. Chalo School is situated 9 kilometers from the town of Fort Nelson, on the Fort Nelson First Nation Reserve. We serve a student population of approximately 120 students from K4 to grade twelve. Chalo School is an independent school that follows the prescribed curriculum of the BC Ministry of Education. Our school offers a strong sense of community through building relationships and connections with staff, students, and families. Chalo school utilizes a team approach through regular team meetings and a walk-to-learn system in the elementary. Small class sizes (20 pupils max.) means that staff are able to provide the time and support needed to ensure that all students are able to learn at high levels.

As a key member of the school’s instructional team, this teacher is responsible for providing instruction for Arts and Trades courses, grades 8-12.
In consultation with colleagues, the teacher provides effective and research-based planning, instructional and assessment practices.
Qualifications:
1. Successful classroom teaching or practicum experience.
2. Knowledge of and willingness to use and learn current best practices in education.
3. Familiarity with BC’s newly redesigned curriculum.
4. A strong team orientation and desire to collaborate with educators.
5. Excellent planning and organization skills.
6. A desire to grow professionally through coaching.
7. A willingness to learn and use school programs.
8. A clear Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector.
All applicants must be eligible for certification by the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch.

Remuneration:
1. Competitive annual salary rate matched with School District 81 salary scale;
2. Comprehensive group healthcare benefits;
3. Employer paid RRSPs contribution; 10.13% of gross earnings paid bi-weekly;
4. Professional Development funds; $1400.00 annually (pro-rated in year one);
5. Relocation Allowance;
6. Recruitment and Retention Bonus; annual payment of $2718.13;
7. Special Leave: 15 medical days (5 days may be used as additional discretionary days with approval), 2 discretionary days, and 3 professional development days.
