As the Arts Centre Specialist, you will provide technical support for all types of ceramic arts programs. You will also oversee studio memberships, rentals, and studio membership/volunteer training. Primary duties include:
  • Load, unload, fire, and maintain electric, wood, soda/salt, and gas kilns.
  • Provide resource, expertise, and technical support to teaching staff, facility users, and the public.
  • Teach art programs and assist with Arts Centre special events.
  • Monitor ceramics studio and kiln room equipment, ensuring the safety and security of the public and the facility. 
  • Complete light maintenance work as required.
  • Conduct glaze research, development, and production.
  • Manage and maintain clay and glaze materials including inventory, supply ordering, and arranging pickup/delivery.
  • Assist customers with registrations, telephone inquiries, facility bookings and sales.
  • Provide administrative functions to meet program/facility needs.
 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2-year Fine Arts Diploma with a ceramics specialization plus at least 2 years of experience working in a ceramics studio; OR 
  • At least 2 years of post-secondary education with a ceramics specialization plus at least 5 years of experience working in a ceramics studio. 
  • Current Intermediate First Aid certificate or willing to obtain it upon commencement of employment. 
  • Possess or be willing to attain Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) training upon commencement of employment. 
  • You have strong customer service and organizational skills, coupled with the ability to provide excellent instruction and direction. 
 
Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to silica dust.

Compensation: Pay Grade 7 $33.33 - 44.60 per hour 
Days of Work: This position works various shifts, 
including daytime, evenings, and weekends.
Hours of work: Up to 30 hours per week
