Wanted: Maintenance Staff- Assistant Head of Maintenance

The Taylor Statten Camps is Canada’s oldest fourth generational family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Our camper’s age varies from 6 – 16.
Job description: Assistant Head of Maintenance (General Carpentry)
Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo have a roster of 10 maintenance staff reporting to the Head of Maintenance. The team is responsible for the start-up, shutdown and operation of the physical facilities on Canoe Lake. This process begins in May and ends in October each year. This position is responsible for a variety of Maintenance-related tasks but we can tailor the scope of work to some extent to suit the applicant. Ideally, the candidate has skills in the following areas:
- General Carpentry: Door and window repair; screen repair; porch and deck building and repair, Asphalt shingling, Dock building and repair; crib repair, Construction of wood shelving and other camp craft supplies
- Supervision of small groups of younger staff during spring and fall work crews
- Small engine servicing- boats, lawnmowers, etc
- General plumbing skills
- Cleaning and organization
- Minor electrical repairs/electrical knowledge is an asset
In addition, general maintenance duties are also required from time to time and include tasks like cleaning, garbage removal etc.
Must be able to operate small motor boats (training can occur at camp).
Qualifications/Job Requirements:
- 5 plus years of experience in general carpentry and/or maintenance
- Pleasure Craft Operating License (boat license)
- Driver’s ‘G’ License and Clean Driver's Abstract
Compensation varies depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant. It is an hourly rate based on 40 to 44 hours per week.
All positions include free room, board, laundry and use of facilities.
This is an annually recurring 6 month contract position with satisfactory performance. We are looking for a long term candidate who enjoys outdoor maintenance type work in the Algonquin Park wilderness setting.
Dates of employment: early May through October inclusive.
