Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Coordinator – Water, this position assists with the preparation of data summaries and performs sampling and analysis at all stages of the water treatment process.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assists with analyses of surface water, process treatment water, distribution system, treated drinking water and process discharge water.
2. Prepares laboratory solutions such as reagents, media, and standards.
3. Assists with special tests, including investigations related to drinking water quality enquiries, complaints, and surveys.
4. Assists with the preparation of summaries of data for reports including lab non-conformity.
5. Assists with the performance of field tests and sampling throughout the distribution system, at remote sites and from environmental locations.
6. Collects samples and maintains equipment.
7. Prepares materials and equipment for tests and analyses, including performing routine maintenance.
8. Performs general housekeeping within the laboratory to ensure that work areas, glassware and equipment are maintained in clean and functional condition.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of water quality tests such as pH, turbidity, titrations, fluoride, and bacteriological analyses including tests for Coliform and HPC bacteria.
  • Knowledge of sampling and sub-sampling methodologies to collect surface water, effluent water, treated water and process water.
  • Ability to follow operating laboratory procedures in order to maintain standards of accreditation assessed by Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer to summarize data.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduation from a recognized two-year, post-secondary program in Water Resources Engineering Technology, Chemical Technology or Biological Sciences Technology
OR
Eligibility for membership in a constituent member of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists in the bioscience, chemical or water resources engineering technology field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, recognized first aid certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Additional Requirements
4-day work week.
Shift work and weekend work are involved.
Weekly Hours: 38.75
Salary Range: $23.40 to $33.19 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
