What will I be doing?

As the Assistant Maintenance Manager, you will be helping to ensure the physical plant is in good working order and providing a friendly positive experience for all our guests. Reporting to and working with the Maintenance Manager, you will fill in as Manager while he is on days off. Your duties include:


Routine Maintenance:

  • Perform cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping etc.
  • Conduct maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Install appliances and equipment.
  • Routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobbies, and facilities
  • Inspect hotel regularly to ensure it meets safety standards
  • Ensure safe operation of pools
  • Ensure snow and ice are cleared promptly from traffic areas
  • Performing routine maintenance checks at staff housing
  • Stay updated on new maintenance techniques, technologies, and safety protocols.

Inspections and Preventative Maintenance:

  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems (e.g. ventilation). Ensure the facility and staff housing are operated and maintained according to meet current codes and regulations
  • Perform chemical tests for the swimming pool
  • Check functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm).
  • Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues.
  • Ongoing preventative maintenance in the guest rooms and all areas of the hotel.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order·

Repairs

  • Perform minor fixes such as repairing broken locks, filling gaps on walls, etc.
  • Paint touch-up work
  • Repairs to staff housing as needed
  • Minor repairs to tools and equipment

Landscape and Grounds Work:

  • Assist with grounds upkeep by mowing lawn, collecting trash etc. if needed.
  • Shovel Snow in Winter, chip ice, etc.
  • Ensure outdoor spaces are clean, safe and visually appealing year round.

Interacting with Team and Guests:

  • Interact with guests in a courteous and professional manner while addressing maintenance requests in guest rooms or public areas.
  • Maintain a guest-focused attitude and prioritize their comfort and satisfaction.

Collaboration:

  • Report to Maintenance Manager any issues that need to be addressed.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all departments.
  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations.
  • Demonstrate the company values at work.
  • Ensure work is completed in the most cost effective and sustainable manner

Documentation and Inventory Management

  • Maintain records of tasks performed as requested by Manager or Health and Safety
  • Keep track of inventory, reporting to Manager when supplies are getting low
  • Using applicable computer programs and software

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure that all Occupational Health & Safety policies are followed.
  • Contribute to Health and Safety planning and Emergency preparedness at the hotel.
  • Respond to emergencies in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Ensure your required training is up to date.
  • Ensure safe operation of the pool and all facilities.

What are the skills, abilities and attitudes we are looking for?

  • Experience in hotel maintenance or facilities management.
  • Journeyman ticket in relevant trade preferred.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance with at least 3 years experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen is an asset
  • Experience in operating a commercial pool is an asset
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • A valid Drivers License and a clean Driver’s Abstract is required. ·
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, must be in good physical condition
  • Strong verbal English communication skills with emphasis on problem-solving.
  • Basic computer skills and willing to learn new ones
  • Must be a team player and willing to learn new skills and procedures ·
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. ·
  • A criminal record check will be required.
  • Experience supervising and /or training others is an asset
