Job Title: Assistant Manager
Reports to: Cafe Manager
The Assistant Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the cafe, ensuring excellent customer service, overseeing staff, maintaining inventory and supplies, and driving revenue growth. Job duties also include all responsibilities of a barista role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing daily operations of the cafe, including opening and closing procedures, inventory management, and staff scheduling
- Hiring, training, and supervising cafe staff, ensuring excellent customer service and adherence to health and safety standards
- Planning and executing staff training events, sessions, or orientations as required, and developing and documenting competency sign offs
- Developing and implementing strategies to increase revenue growth, such as promotions and special events
- Maintaining inventory and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and minimizing waste
- Managing the cafe's financial performance, including monitoring expenses and revenue and maintaining accurate cash handling procedures
- Ensuring proper stock receiving procedures and follow through with invoices and monitoring incoming stock for quality and integrity
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and WHMIS documentation, including proper food handling and storage, cleanliness and maintenance of the facility, and adherence provincial regulations
- Fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and collaboration among staff
- Handling customer complaints and resolving issues in a professional and timely manner
- Modeling the standards of efficient and friendly service and motivating staff to follow those standards, and coaching staff as necessary to maintain those standards
- Motivating all staff to prepare food and drink according to the recipe standard procedures and quality guidelines, and following through with staff on any corrective action required
It is expected you demonstrate strong leadership skills and motivate staff to consistently maintain standards as directed. You must demonstrate critical thinking and have problem solving skills and the ability to have a higher awareness of cafe operations. You will work special events as needed, have scheduling flexibility, and will occasionally be required to work overtime outside of your regular shifted hours. It will be occasionally required that you attend to coaching needs outside of regular scheduled hours or regular business hours. You must be a model barista in terms of bar skills, customer service and enthusiasm to share knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Experience in cafe, restaurant, or retail management highly preferred, but willing to train
- Foodsafe level 1 or equivalent, or ability to attain qualification within 3 months
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and food handling procedures
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
