Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving the education needs of approximately 17,750 students in 42 schools. SouthPointe School serves approximately 680 students in kindergarten to Grade 9, with 32 teaching staff and 18 support staff. The school is located in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, approximately 20 kilometres north of Sherwood Park, AB.

SouthPointe School, in collaboration with the community, provides a safe, supportive learning environment in which every student will develop the skills and knowledge to become lifelong learners and contributing members of society. All students at SouthPointe are in an environment where they are valued, cared for, respected and treated as individuals with individual needs, strengths, affinities and areas of growth.

Elk Island Public School Division invites applicants for the position of Assistant Principal at SouthPointe effective the 2024-25 school year.

This position is open to internal and external candidates who are qualified teachers. Submit a cover letter and resume. The competition closes at 4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

School discipline and school-wide recognition program.

Overseeing the school’s athletic program and intramurals.

Conferring with students, parents and staff to find the best solutions possible to help students succeed.

Building relationships with students, staff and families to maintain a positive school culture.

Effective verbal and written communications with a variety of groups and individuals.

Maintaining high visibility and accessibility during the school day, including classroom visitations.

Providing leadership in creating opportunities for teacher collaboration and professional learning.

Supervision, observations and evaluations of staff, including hiring of educational assistants and noon supervisors.

Overseeing the physical building and log maintenance requests, as necessary.

Overseeing Occupational Health and Safety requirements and emergency preparedness protocols

Student transportation.

Assisting with timetabling and staffing.

Contributing to budget projections, prioritizing allocations.

The supervision and support for inclusive education, which includes ISP and Benchmark completion and updates. In addition, the Assistant Principal position would support staff with numeracy and literacy.

Supervision of ISP construction and administration of STAR benchmark testing.

Developing innovative and creative strategies to increase student engagement, including the necessary supports for the success of students in inclusive settings.

Leading the development, implementation and assessment of the instructional program.

Supporting teachers with the implementation of new curriculum, and application of foundational knowledge about First Nations, Metis, and Inuit ways of knowing, learning and being.

There may be a teaching assignment attached to this position.

Experience, Training, Requirements:

Experience or knowledge of collaborative response and student disciple focusing on the student and educator's nervous system would be considered an asset

Valid Permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate

Minimum five years successful teaching experience

Master’s degree or nearing completion of a Master’s program would be considered an asset

Experience as an Assistant Principal would be considered an asset
