Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cultivation: Oversee the cultivation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, evergreens and perennials to ensure optimal growth and health.
  • Pest and Disease Management: Monitor, identify, and control pests and diseases to prevent plant damage. Implement appropriate pest management strategies.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high-quality standards for plant health, appearance, and overall quality.
  • Irrigation Management: Regulate greenhouse and nursery irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants, preventing over- or under-watering.
  • Planting and Transplanting: Coordinate and perform planting, transplanting, and grafting of trees, shrubs, and perennials following industry best practices.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of plant growth, health, and treatments. Document key activities and observations.
  • Reporting: Regularly report plant health issues, including diseases, pests, and growth anomalies, to the Production Manager.
  • Safety Protocols: Enforce safety regulations and policies to create a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Plant Identification: Identify plant varieties and recognize potential issues related to diseases, weeds, and insect pests.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot plant health problems, conduct root cause analysis, and implement solutions to resolve issues.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Production Manager and other team members to ensure products are grown according to specifications and meet predetermined shipping schedules.
  • Production Manager Support: Collaborate with the Production Manager to ensure plants receive proper nutrition and monitor their growth to achieve optimal results.
  • Product Placement: Ensure the proper placement of products within the greenhouse and nursery sections, optimizing available space.

Experience Required:

  • Self-motivated with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, inspire employees, and assess and develop employee performance and growth.
  • Work collaboratively with the Production Manager to monitor plant nutrition and growth, ensuring that each variety reaches its optimum level per schedule.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with technology for tracking and documenting technical information.
  • Capable of operating various machinery, including tractors, forklifts, and wheel loaders.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Horticultural/Greenhouse Technician certificate or proven work experience in the field.
  • 2 years of proven Management experience in Horticulture or Agriculture.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Available to rotate, working evenings, weekends and holidays with other team members.
  • Ability to work long and/or irregular shifts as needed.
  • Ability to carry and lift 50 pounds.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly pay of $26 to $33, with increases based on skill development.
