Purpose

Contribute to GBM Internal Control mandate by ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures


What You'll Do:

  • Contributes a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • As Associate, GBM Internal Control, provide regulatory and business subject matter expertise and be a change facilitator for the GBM business globally with a focus on first line of defense activity largely in relation to the Volcker Rule and Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) though also covering other regulation on as needed basis.
  • This role's focus also includes responsibility ensuring for the Volcker and FRTB Internal Controls library is sufficiently developed, as per the scope of our mandate, documented and maintained to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, design and operational effectiveness.
  • Accountable for effective collaborating in the reporting to senior leaders through support of the VOC Volcker and other oversight committees, if applicable. Specifically, supporting meeting administration responsibilities such as preparation and coordination of meeting agenda and materials, tracking action items and perpetration of meeting minutes.
  • When required, deliver updates directly to the Volker Oversight Committee (VOC) on the status of the GBM's Volcker program and progress of change management initiatives.
  • Responsible for coordinating change management activities, provide timely turnaround on desk queries, orchestrate key reference data changes (as per group ownership), and develop strong relationships, all delivered using high level communication skills.
  • Responsible for collaborating in the developing and preparation of business-related responses to queries from Compliance and Internal Audit in relation to Volcker and FRTB regulations and audit engagement matters. Specifically, the coordination of Audit issue remediation and quality control of Audit evidence packages.
  • Contribute to advisory and training efforts to the business, developing and managing the communication strategies, ensure the ongoing alignment of the business and stakeholders to the regulatory requirements and working with Legal and Compliance to provide timely rule interpretation and advice.
  • Recalibrate Market Making Inventory threshold and annual review of Customer Facing Trading Ratio and Inventory Ageing metrics.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, related field, or equivalent experience
  • 4 or more years of experience in the financial industry or similar environment
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large quantities of data research and organize results.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to execute projects.
  • Medium to Advanced user capabilities in Excel, Access, and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of key current rules and regulations governing banking institutions, specifically in the Capital Markets business
  • Capital market products knowledge is an asset.


Work Arrangement:

This position is currently a Hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work 3 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
