The Opportunity
The Associate Loan Accountant supports, facilitates the loan servicing and administration function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions, on-going reporting, and system maintenance. The Associate Loan Accountant ensures adherence to existing controls surrounding loan servicing and administration and further develops systems of internal controls, supporting continuous improvement and upgrading of information systems and reporting.
Primary Accountabilities
Accounts Payable and Banking
  • In charge of the centralized Accounts Payable of the Loan Administration group.
  • Prepares Protective Advances on Default loans that are mostly for the payment of invoices.
  • Monitoring of US Borrower payments Received at Synovus or other banks.
  • Creating wire templates and securing their approval for use.
  • Facilitates prompt and accurate recording of transactions at The Mortgage Office (TMO).
  • Organizes the files for the loan admin team at Sharepoint.
The Mortgage Office
  • Assist in obtaining loan and investor documents to facilitate loan and lender set-up at TMO.
  • Posting monthly at TMO of the EFT and ACH to individual loans and monitoring any payment returns.
  • Assist in monthly payment distribution either by online transfer or wire or depositing of Cheques.
  • Directly provide or provide Investor Relations with copy of payments made and supporting schedule.
  • Periodic clean-up of the various Loan Servicing Trust Accounts.
  • Assist with regular TMO maintenance such as verifying or completing the information as reported on data integrity check.
Reporting
  • Update monthly Computershare on loan ownership changes and ensures that Ownership Certificates on file are current and complete.
  • Provides monthly Mortgage Statements to the Borrowers.
  • Assist in the preparation of investor documents, monitoring their signing/execution and saving the file.
  • Prepares Originator Deferred Fee Schedule on applicable paid out loans for Senior Accountant's review.
Audits and Tax Filing
  • Assist in packaging and submission of all documents required by the auditors.
  • Coordinate with Investor Relations to obtain complete investor information and documentation for investment in the loans.
  • Assist with providing the investors' copy of tax forms filed and supporting schedules.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in finance and accounting
