This role requires full time on site presence.
Your role
CBC North is seeking a creative, energetic and forward-thinking Associate Producer to assist with the production of our Indigenous language and English language radio programs.
This is a 12 month term position.
You perform editorial assignments related to the gathering, writing and presentation of program material for all of our media platforms, prioritizing content for audio programs and news.
You will work with our Indigenous language broadcasters to assist with the production of their programs both editorially and technically. You will be expected to assist with the production and technical operations for remote and daily broadcasts, and assist with ensuring our Indigenous language content is uploaded to our web platform.
You will attend story meetings, pitch stories for both our Indigenous language and English language programs, and participate in the production, direction, and/or post-production of a program and/or program segment.
The ideal candidate has an interest in keeping up to date with current events and news happening in the North. You are a problem solver who can solve technical and editorial problems when you encounter them.
You have a thorough passion for knowledge and understanding of the North and its diversity of communities, culture and content.
You will be getting our programming ready to air while keeping in touch with the team to provide support and catch up with stories and events in the region.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of Indigenous and other diverse communities in the North.
  • Enthusiastic team player with great communication skills.
  • Facilitate communication with members of the audience.
  • Organize the participation of interviewees, contributors and other participants.
  • Adept at solving problems independently and in-group discussions (openness to new ideas and approaches).
  • Technical troubleshooting skills an asset.
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language would be an asset.
  • Able to work flexible hours, weekends and nights.
  • A combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Minimum of two years' relevant experience during which the candidate would gain exposure to journalism, show production, newsroom workflow and technological and editorial experience with audio and video broadcasting.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
