Reporting to the Manager, Access to Information, Protection and Privacy (ATIPP), the ATIPP Advisor (Advisor) is responsible for ensuring the Government of Nunavut’s (GN’s) policies and procedures affecting access and privacy issues comply with the Nunavut ATIPP Act and align appropriately with the GN's access and privacy regime. Constant review and analysis of the government's legislative and policy frameworks is required and will lead to recommendations on improvements to the current access and privacy regime within the Government of Nunavut (GN). The Advisor works with and consults other government departments, the Information and Privacy Commissioner, and Federal/Provincial/Territorial groups on access and privacy related matters affecting government services and operations. In cooperation with the Manager, the Advisor develops and helps other departments develop official submissions regarding ATIPP or require specific attention, including research reports, Cabinet requests for decision, legislative proposals, discussion papers, information items, options papers, and decision papers.

The Advisor takes a lead role in the development and coordination of ATIPP strategic planning. The Advisor provides subject expertise, authoritative advice, and analysis on legislative and policy direction regarding access and privacy issues challenging the GN and other public bodies designated in the ATIPP Regulations. The Advisor will support the Manager and Director in working with all departmental ATIPP coordinators, management, political staff, legal personnel, and others to develop and implement ATIPP legislation, policies, and procedures throughout the GN. This includes the development and maintenance of clear and efficient interdepartmental and public facing communications and products.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized

Undergraduate degree in business or public administration, social sciences, law, information management or a related field plus two (2) years of experience developing and analyzing policy, programs and systems in a large organization or government setting. Excellent oral and written communications skills is required This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
