Job description

Attractions Operator

Niagara Parks is currently recruiting for Attractions Operators to join our team for the 2024 season. This position compensates at a rate of $17.52/hr for Seasonal Bargaining Unit and Part-Time employees. Students will be compensated in accordance with Ontario Minimum Wage Legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Secondary School diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Record keeping skills, ability to carry out manual tasks, communication and interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
  • The individual must be willing and able to complete the following: Minimum of eight (8) hours practical training experience as an incline Ambassador. Sixteen (16) hours of lower operator training and. Forty (40) hours of upper operator training
  • The individual must also pass the Ambassador, lower operator’s, and upper operator’s, Operator written annual examination. Required to obtain and/or renew Niagara Parks Guide License each year (online or in-house training).
  • Previous cashier and customer service experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates the Incline Railway in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Tests all safety devices to ensure they are operating correctly e.g. for emergency stop.
  • Communicates operational / equipment issues with the Manager.
  • Welcomes and instructs guests on passenger safety on established requirements.
  • Maintains communication while operating the incline with other operators and staff.
  • Visually inspects area to ensure safe operation of incline (e.g. area free of obstructions).
  • Monitors flow of visitor traffic and assists visitors as required (e.g., wheelchairs and strollers).
  • Visually inspects tracks to ensure they are free of obstructions.
  • Welcomes, instructs, and controls the passengers using the P.A. system.
  • Maintains communication with the Upper Level using the intercom system.
  • Watches the cars in-route and is prepared to stop cars, if necessary.
  • Ensures prompt and efficient customer service that meets NPC standards.
  • Monitors staff activities to ensure all Incline Rules are understood, implemented, and followed.
  • Ensures all Car Loaders are in view and standing within the safety area, away from cars as they enter the pit.
  • Assists Car Loaders, as needed.
  • Monitors flow of visitor traffic and assists visitors as required (e.g. wheelchairs and strollers).

In addition to the lower operator responsibilities the upper operator is required to;

  • Test all electrical panels to ensure they are operating correctly.
  • Upper operator is responsible for the operation of the incline e.g controlling the speed, lubing the tracks, AC, and lights on the incline.
  • Ensures that both levels are loading no more than 30-35 (3200kg) passengers.
  • Performs a visual circle check inside the engine room.
  • Circle check/visually inspect underneath carriers. Identify and report any issues.
  • Perform a complete visual inspection of the incline and surrounding area.
  • Identify a lockout procedure.
  • Call the office, mechanic, and supervisor for any issues such as temporary closures, possible evacuation, lightning, and/or technical difficulties with the Incline.
  • Fills out all forms, government daily logs, and documents all rescue operations.
  • Must have the ability to carry thirty (30) pound propane tanks with two hands safely downstairs, and the ability to carry (30) thirty-pound batteries with one hand down the stairs.
  • Maintains cleanliness of immediate work area.
  • Provides quality customer service that meets NPC standards.
  • Promotes a positive image of the Niagara Parks Commission.
  • Provides guests with information regarding all Niagara Parks Attractions.
  • Maintains platform during winter.
  • As assigned.
