Job Summary

A high-profile leadership role for an innovative leader with outstanding collaborative skills!

The Mental Health and Substance Use Division (MHSUD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction (MMHA) is responsible for helping to set and deliver provincial direction to enable a high functioning, integrated continuum of mental health and substance use services within the broader health system that meets the needs of all British Columbians. The MHSUD, working across divisions in the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions and in partnership with health authorities, First Nations, Métis and Indigenous and other system partners, leads implementation and system improvement activities i.e., development of care pathways, performance monitoring, risk assessment, scale-up of evidence-based approaches, etc. across the mental health and substance use service continuum.

The Director is a passionate leader who understands the importance of innovation and continuous improvement for achieving excellence in mental health and substance use patient centered care. This position reports to the Senior Director, MHSU Programs and Services and supports the Senior and Executive Directors, Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and MMHA in building a responsive, integrated, high quality, client centred mental health and substance use service continuum within the broader health system, including leading initiatives and projects that improve access and deliver coordinated care, particularly for individuals with complex mental health and problematic substance use.

The Director leads, in partnership with internal and external partners, the development, implementation and monitoring of cross sectoral evidence and practice informed policy, program, service delivery frameworks and clinical practice models. The Director provides strategic initiative delivery expertise and advice to the Senior Director, Executive Director, ADM and senior management on a broad range of related issues, trends and directions impacting the overall delivery of mental health and substance use services.



Job Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in business/public administration, health science administration, social science, humanities, or related field.
  • Plus at least two (2) years of progressive and recent, related experience in each of the following:
    • Experience in managing complex, multi-year and/or strategic, high priority projects with high public profiles and divergent stakeholder issues.
    • Experience providing advice to senior executives on program, policy, service and/or issues-management.
    • Experience in supervising staff.
    • Experience preparing briefing materials and written reports for executive staff.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in the health care sector.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in user experience change management or certification(s) in change management.
  • Preference may be given to those with four (4) or more years progressive and recent, related experience.
