Job Summary

As the provincial government transforms relationships with Indigenous peoples to recognize inherent rights such as self-determination, the Indigenous Relations Branch (IRB) provides a leadership role to the Ministry in its reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples. A key component of reconciliation involves working collaboratively and respectfully with all Indigenous Peoples on building and maintaining partnerships with all levels of Government, industry and stakeholders.
IRB leads work to guide the implementation the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action, and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) in the Ministry. IRB also provides a leadership role to increase Indigenous participation in the forest sector, coordinates consultation processes as well as coordinates the ministry's support to the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) in treaty and reconciliation initiatives and develops appropriate policy and legislation.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will lead and support strategy, process and policy development to help ensure the ministry's strategic objectives are achieved. The Director will provide leadership on cross government and cross ministry initiatives and continuously build and foster partnerships with a diverse range of leaders. The Director will demonstrate skills as collaborator with strong government connections and be a highly effective communicator, both verbal and written. Experience working effectively, respectfully and knowledgeably with a range of Indigenous organizations and communities across the province is critical. The candidate will have knowledge of government objectives and commitments as they relate to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Job Requirements:
  • Relateduniversity degree, diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience related to the area of specialty.
  • Experience leading and resolving complex staff and/or client issues.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients in a customer service environment.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with Indigenous Nations, organizations and communities.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is for one (1) permanent opportunity.
