Job description

SCOPE AND GENERAL PURPOSE

To serve beverages and/or food to the guests in a friendly, courteous and timely and manner, resulting in guest satisfaction and in accordance with licensing legislation. Also, to prepare beverages for other servers to supply to guests, and act as cashier for the lounge.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Maintains proper and adequate set-up of the bar on a daily basis. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments and produce based on projections from the daily functions sheet

2. Responsible for maintaining stock, cutting, and storing of all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices and other perishables daily to insure product quality.

3. Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner, promotes and documents orders for drinks. Mixes, garnishes and presents drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control.

4. Abide by all Provincial, Federal and Corporate requirements pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages.

5. Inputs orders into a register at the point of sale and creates a check for each guest, including those served by other beverage servers, to maintain accountability of all beverages served.

6. Receives cash from guests, makes any change needed, verifies validity of charges, records charges, and insures vouchers are properly executed, in order to balance all moneys.

7. Locks up and stores all beverage, food and other equipment items, deposits cash drops and secures bank.

8. To be certified in the service of alcoholic beverage as required by company policy.

9. To collect/wash glasses and clear dishware.

10. To be proficient in the fast and professional service of beverages in accordance with legal requirements and property policy.

11. To carry out table service as required by property policy.

12. To be competent in the use of the till ensuring accurate charging/processing of all items.

13. To recognize and promote profitable brands of drink and take every opportunity to “sell” a double measure/repeat drink in order to contribute to the achievement of revenue targeted for the department.

14. To maintain the cleanliness of the bar and table/seating area in accordance with cleaning schedule.

15. To assist on banqueting bars on an as need basis achieving standards required by law and property policy.

16. Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.

17. Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have the ability to communicate in English. Self-starting personality with an even disposition. Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times. Can communicate well with guests. Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player. Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages. Basic mathematical skills necessary to operate a cash register, make change, total guest checks, count total bank, prepare cash drops, total all other charges, and understand portion sizes. Sufficient manual dexterity in hands in order to use a knife to make garnish, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, mix drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock. Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items. Ability to operate a keyboard and point of sale procedures to pre-check an order and close out a check. Ability to stand and work in confined spaces for long periods of time. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers and patrons.

GENERAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To adhere to all matters relating to hygiene, health, safety and emergencyprocedures as laid down by law and by company policy.

2. To carry out any reasonable request.

3. To provide exceptional customer service with positive addressing of guest concerns/complaints in line with company policy.

4. To work and communicate in a professional and ethical manner with colleagues assisting where necessary to achieve standards required by company policy.

5. To be committed to achievement of the company, property and department Mission Statements.

6. To be a “sales person” by active promotion of property facilities and company/property specific promotions in order to contribute to overall profitability.

7. To assist with team member orientation/training within the department as required by company policy.

8. To maintain standards of punctuality, uniform /dress code as appropriate to position and personal hygiene as required by property and company policy.

9. To be aware of and comply with company and house rules.

10. To contribute to energy conservation and ensure safe usage/storage of all materials/equipment/chemicals as per manufacturers’ instructions.

11. To attend meetings as requested and to recognize the importance of contributing new ideas and initiative to the overall success of the operation.

12. To assist with cleaning duties in order to maintain a clean and well-organized work area in line with property policy.

13. To adhere to the Property Crisis Communication Plan to ensurethat inquiries from the media are responded to by the nominated spokesperson in line with company policy.

14. To contribute to the security of the building, company assets and guest/co-worker safety with full adherence to security procedures with proper handling of keys/cash as appropriate to the position following procedures laid down by company policy.

Salary: $25.00-$26.00 per hour
