The Cathedral Area Coop Daycare is a growing early childhood center based in the heart of the Cathedral Area that offers its employees flexible works hours, meaningful work, and strong community support. We are a well-established childcare center that is known for its strong sense of community and the quality of care we provide our children and their families.
The Position
We are in need of Before & After School Program Leaders, who work under the supervision of the Executive and Assistant Director to create and implement Before and After School Programming and day camp programming, This program is an unlicensed recreational program that is held off-site from the Cathedral Area Coop Daycare.
To succeed in this role, the Before & After School Leader must be able to work independently, be compassionate, friendly, and willing to work a flexible schedule.
Successful candidates should also possess the ability to interact with children in a positive and productive manner. The Before & After School Leader may also work at the Cathedral Area Coop Daycare main center at agreed-upon times to assist with childcare when available and willing.

- Valid First Aid & CPR certification
- Communicate effectively in English in order to support early language development in children

Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist with appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the centre’s philosophy.
- Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, field trips, and individual/group activities
- Carry out a daily activity schedule that incorporates child-directed activity, care routines, and transition times. Walk children to and from school and/or bus stops daily on school days.
- Organizing space, equipment, and materials before activities
- Create opportunities for children to express themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations
- Encourage and assist children to practice self-help daily
- Plan and carry out experiences that foster an understanding of a variety of cultures and value systems
- Provide an opportunity for child-directed play experience
- Plan and carry out activities that encourage problem-solving
- Provide experiences and play materials that actively promote diversity and acceptance in interactions and attitudes.
*Play and Exploration Programming
- Participate in regular program planning with Executive and Assistant Director which is developmentally appropriate for the age group
- Implement Play & Exploration programming that is developmentally appropriate
- Evaluate Play & Exploration Programming to determine its effectiveness and make adjustments as necessary
- Ensure guidance of children’s behaviour that encourages positive self-concept
- Participate and implement the development of behavioural or developmental support plans created by the Executive and Assistant Director and provide updates on progress
- Follow the centre’s procedures for administering medications and maintaining health records
- Ensure positive communication with parents, children and colleagues
Hours of Work
- Part time, must be able to work split shifts daily and available for longer shifts on school holidays/PD days. 7:15-10 and 2:30-5:45 or full day
The Location
The Cathedral Area Coop Daycare Before & After School Program is based out of the Westminster United Church on the corner of Cameron Street and 13th avenue. We have one large classroom that is for the sole use of the B&A School Program and then have access to an additional room and gymnasium during programming time. This is a great place to work as you are close to a unique set of shops, services and public transportation in the heart of the Cathedral neighborhood.
