Component Repair – Bench Technician

Location:

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Summary:

TransCanada Turbines (TCT) is the sole authorized overhaul, repair and maintenance service

provider for Siemens Energy and General Electric (GE) aeroderivative industrial gas turbines,

serving an expanding international client base.

We are currently seeking an experienced Bench Technician (Component Repair) to join our

growing team in the Airdrie Depot location.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Component Repair, the Component Repair Bench Technician is

responsible for repairing gas turbine engine parts as in accordance with engineering and OEM

documentation using primarily hand tools.

Duties

The duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Hand blending and polishing of gas turbine components using appropriate OEM
guidelines.
  • Thread repair on components including broken bolt removal, threaded insert (Heli-coil)
replacement, tapping and cleaning of holes, and installation of solid threaded inserts.
  • Cold working of damaged alloys to original contour to repair warping, distortion, or
dents.
  • Strong competency with hand tools such as drills, pencil grinders, files, sandpaper,
punches, etc.
  • Mechanics or small engine repair experience an asset.
  • Be able to follow engineered diagrams and repair schemes.
  • Have a high degree of material handling awareness.
  • Perform composite repair on light alloys and fiberglass assemblies.
  • Perform shotpeening on components using manual and automated machines (training
on shotpeening will be provided).
  • Assist in training future salvage area personnel including assisting the Team Leader with
the compilation of work instructions and procedures.
  • Work directly with the Team Leader to establish work priorities, scheduling of work and
stock optimization.
  • Assist with repair scheme development and expansion of the current component repair
scope of services.
  • Monitor shop practices to ensure that the facility is always operated in a healthy, safe,
and environmentally conscience manner, per TCT policies and procedures. Take steps
to correct any condition that violates this fundamental principle.
  • Make recommendations on policy and procedures to improve shop productivity and
profit of the company in general, and to contribute to continuous improvement
initiatives.
  • Increase knowledge of the HSE Policy and Manual and maintain a positive attitude
towards the health and safety of myself and my coworkers.
  • Take ownership of HSE issues and demonstrate enthusiasm and support for HSE.
  • Other duties as directed by the Team Leader, Component Repair or designate(s).

Company Requirements:

  • 2+ years related experience or a combination of experience & education will be

considered

  • Shift rotation work is required (day, afternoon with occasional night shifts as required)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Successful completion of a post-offer medical and drug test
