Job description

This position is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to all employees with the primary responsibility of administering the union and non-union benefit plans. You will be looking after maintenance of the HRIS database, employee files, and the employee recognition program. You will also assist in the communication & understand of the benefit strategies and play a key role in the execution of all the benefit plans & reviews.

Benefits

  • Administer the employee group benefit programs in accordance with the Collective Agreement and Calgary Co-op Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist with and provide input in maintaining a fair, equitable and competitive benefits package that fits and is aligned to our company’s strategy and business goals.
  • Entering and maintaining the employee group benefit coverage and deductions in the HRIS.
  • Provide information and advice for employees pertaining to benefit eligibility, status of benefits, coverage, benefit premium for all plans and pension.
  • Identify errors on enrollment changes and work with the employee/benefit provider to process any correction(s).
  • Follow practices that are compliant with current legislation.
  • Conduct benefit reviews.
  • Training new managers on the employee data workflow and the benefit plan(s).

Core HR

  • Oversee the administration of performance reviews and the recognition program.
  • Assist in the coordination and attend the service award functions, as required.
  • File Room duties (new hire kits, separations etc.) as required, preparing employment verification letters, and provide work8 references.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of business processes.
  • Participate in the development and action of yearly competency performance work plan and development action plan.
  • Provide leadership in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), including participate in HSE activities, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with HSE policies, procedures and legislation, assist in identifying unhealthy, unsafe situations and ensure corrective action is taken.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the group benefits administration.
  • Customer-focused orientation and commitment to provide outstanding service.
  • Previous experience in conducting benefit reviews.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Cloud or an equivalent Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Strong attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Display the ability to act with diplomacy, tact and professionalism and to maintain an environment of confidentiality.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Hands on experience with quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Effectively prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Related post-secondary education, such as Human Resources Management Certificate or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist.
  • Experience working with unions and within the guidelines of a Collective Agreement.
  • Experience in a retail environment.
