The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Manitoba (PGT) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Bill Payment Clerk. The PGT is a provincial government Special Operating Agency that manages the affairs of Manitobans who are unable to do so themselves and have no one else willing or able to act on their behalf, as well as administers the estates of individuals residing in Manitoba who have died and who have no one else to act as administrator or executor. The PGT also manages trust money on behalf of individuals under the age of 18 as well as those who are under a legal disability. In addition, the PGT manages the personal and financial affairs of individuals who are incompetent to make independent decisions or who are vulnerable adults.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Extensive experience validating and processing invoices to vendors, medical bills to various service providers and medical practitioners for payment.
  • Experience with basic financial processes including preparing and reconciling financial information.
  • Experience processing/coding invoices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing workload demands and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with departmental staff, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, using own discretion and demonstrating self-motivation and self-discipline.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Effective verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate information to all levels of the team and organization.
  • Efficient written communication skills.
  • Proficiency working with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) or similar software applications, and other computerized database applications.
Desired:
  • A basic understanding of medical, dental or prescription drug coverage.

Duties:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Bill Payment Clerk receives, categorizes, organizes, investigates and pays a large volume of medical bills on behalf of the clients of the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Manitoba. The Bill Payment Clerk ensures that the bills paid have been properly approved and accurately charged to the client accounts. This position requires a thorough familiarization of the many different types of medical bills received as well as a basic knowledge of categories of medical expenses for taxation purposes.
