$83,313.86 - $95,028.49 annually, which includes a 3.3% Temporary Market Adjustment* , plus $53.13 bi-weekly Isolation allowance for Fort Nelson; $36.53 bi-weekly isolation allowance for Smithers.

The Wildlife Branch (the "Branch") leads the development of program policy, regulations and legislation related to the use and management of wildlife resources, including recreational and commercial activities throughout the Province. The Branch provides on-going policy interpretation, advice and information to the Minister, ministry executive and staff, interest groups and the public. The Wildlife Management section develops policy, regulations and management plans for the sustainable use of wildlife, and both leads and collaborates on wildlife research initiatives to support wildlife management.
The Senior Policy and Regulations Analyst is the lead provincial authority and spokesperson on the wildlife regulatory framework linking the science of sustainable wildlife management to regulation. The position is responsible for planning and coordinating provincial regulatory and legislative projects, recommending and developing regulations, legislation and policy as well as Ministerial, Cabinet and Legislative amendments to the Wildlife Act and Regulations, and Treasury Board Submissions. As the provincial expert on Wildlife science and Regulations this position provides legislative advice and expertise based on knowledge of the regulatory framework and current natural resource management science principles and methodologies, research and analysis of inter-jurisdictional government statutes, laws, Policy and best practices governing wildlife conservation, allocation and use.
Job Requirements:
Education
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or Biologist in Training (BIT) in BC with the College of Applied Biology (CAB). (Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made).
  • Master's degree in biological sciences, environmental studies, or natural resource management and three (3) years of related experience including policy development OR
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, environmental studies, or natural resource management and five (5) years related experience including policy development OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related Experience must include:
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment- researching, interpreting, drafting and applying science-based legislation, regulation and policy.
  • Experience applying scientific and technical knowledge, conducting research, analyzing information to make practical recommendations to decision-makers utilizing the latest scientific and biodiversity information to make recommendations for legislation, Policy and practice.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience with contract administration and monitoring.
