Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Biodiversity Intern.

 

Reporting to the Senior Lead Sustainability, Tailings & Environment, the Biodiversity Intern is to be exposed to, learn, and support the coordination and implementation of biodiversity and nature related initiatives work at Red Dog Operations.

 

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

 

Responsibilities:
•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Work with the Biodiversity Lead to plan, coordinate, and execute nature positive, conservation, reclamation, and biodiversity related field programs
•    Assist with logistics and planning for various field programs
•    Assist with literature research and reviews
•    Provide field assistance to contractors and consultants performing field work in remote areas. This may include full days in the field and travel by helicopter and traversing rough terrain and exposure to adverse weather and insects
•    Participate in training field contractors and consultants on safety related protocols for Red Dog
•    Assist with surveys of local flora and fauna
•    Assisting with Red Dog’s Biodiversity and Closure program and as required
•    Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:
•    Currently enrolled in 4-year college pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as biology, wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resources other related field
•    Must provide resume, class schedule and unofficial transcripts when applying
•    Proficient with MS Office Suite
•    Must be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions and insects.
•    Must be able to lift 40 pounds and move safely over uneven terrain
•    Great organizational skills
•    Strong work ethic, self-motivated, dependable and punctual
•    Strong oral and written communication skills
•    Positive attitude and enjoy working with new people
•    Professional attitude able to take direction and feedback
•    Must have valid Driver's License
