About the Role

The Biologist/Ecologist Co-op with LGL is a great opportunity to gain experience and learn from a well-respected, and industry-leading research organization. The successful candidate will work as a member of our existing office-based team to fulfill existing and upcoming project obligations. Successful candidates will gain exposure to building client relationships, positioning project pursuits, and professional designations (RPBio), where they can find mentorship from within the company from those already with professional designations. Individuals with qualifications beyond those described below are also encouraged to apply. This position will be hired initially for a four (4) month contract with the potential for extension. Applicants who are available to start earlier than the May 2024 start date should note their availability in their application.

What you will do:

• Complete field programs as a crew second in terrestrial (and potentially freshwater and marine) environments
• Complete quality and completeness checks on field data
• Contribute to technical reports
• Prioritize safety in all tasks

What you will bring:

• Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in an environmental field
• Accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with the College of Applied Biologists as a Registered Biology Technologist in Training or a Biologist in Training, or equivalent accreditation, is an asset but not required for this co-op/intern position
• Knowledge of the taxonomy and ecology of the terrestrial flora and/or terrestrial fauna of B.C. and Alberta
• Works safely and dependably both alone and as part of a team
• Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills
• Able to work in remote areas away from home for extended periods
• Willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities
• Familiar with a variety of field and office equipment; running a variety of apps is an asset

• Monday to Friday schedule; and
• Physically based in Sidney, British Columbia with potential for a hybrid working arrangement.
• Four month term position from May 2024 to August 2024
