Job Summary
Join our team and help keep BC's roads and highways safe
The Ministry's Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch programs provide enforcement through the delivery of six acts and regulations designed to improve vehicle and driver fitness and the protection of the highway infrastructure.
The Commercial Transport Enforcement Officer (CTEO) enforces compliance with the acts, regulations and standards that govern the road transportation industry, protects highway infrastructure and protects the safety of highway users. Within the assigned area, this position monitors roadways and may operate from Vehicle Inspection Stations or from an emergency equipped vehicle. The CTEO conducts safety inspections on commercial vehicles and drivers. Inspections are mechanical and regulatory in nature.
Additionally, the CTEO is an enforcement authority as a Commercial Transport Inspector and, as a British Columbia Peace Officer, will enforce provisions of the related and relevant acts. This may include issuing warnings and prosecution notices, delaying or detaining vehicles and/or drivers, patrolling and monitoring highways, and many other activities to help secure safer highways for British Columbians.

Job Requirements:
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy and/or procedures.
  • Valid BC Class 5 (minimum) Driver's Licence in good standing with no more than nine (9) points within the last five (5) year period with no suspensions or prohibitions.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • One (1) year or more of experience in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and/or applicants who are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified.
  • Experience in Road Transportation or Law Enforcement.
  • Experience interpreting and applying acts, regulations, and legislation.
  • Experience delivering and conducting presentations and seminars.

Please note: To be considered for this position you must provide a Personal Driving Record and a Commercial Driving Record (N-Print) which (within the last five (5) years) is/has:
  • No driving suspensions
  • No more than nine (9) points total
  • No more than eight (8) accumulative offences including zero-point offences
  • Recent and dated within 30 days of application

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Penticton at the Kaleden Inspection Station.
An eligibility list may be established for temporary and permanent CTEO positions in Penticton.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
