Camp Director

Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and skilled individual to join our team as the Camp Director. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our camp services with a primary focus on high quality programs and execution. Your role will encompass leadership development, creation of programming and curriculum, crisis management, and continuous improvement to ensure the success of our camp programs. This position involves working closely with children, managing a full-time, part-time and seasonal team, and providing strong leadership.

Responsibilities

Off Season

  • Manage a team of Regional Managers and Location Managers.
  • Develop and articulate the strategic vision for the camp and extracurricular programs.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance program quality, safety, and overall impact.
  • Monitor the creation of camp programming and curriculum to ensure high quality programs.
  • Review feedback from staff and parents from the previous summer and apply changes to the upcoming year.
  • Set new goals and focus areas for the upcoming camp year.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills, fostering a fun, positive and professional environment.
  • Provide visionary leadership to department heads, cultivating a culture of excellence.
  • Conduct evaluations for camp management, providing feedback on performance.
  • Develop and implement efficient workflows for smooth operations.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the camp operations team and other heads of departments.
  • Coordinate and communicate with department heads, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Attend job fairs and career events with the HR department, actively participating in recruitment efforts.
  • Conduct training sessions, including theory and practical trainings.
  • Taking initiative in team meetings to ensure that all departments have the necessary information to support operations.
  • Assign events and projects to each camp team member, dividing responsibilities for efficient execution.
  • Plan and coordinate various events, including March Break and Summer Camp, Trainings, Retreat, Parent Q&A Nights, Open House, Camper Orientation, and more.
  • Book guest speakers, special events, and collaborations with other organizations to enrich our camp services.
  • File cleanup from the summer, collecting, reviewing, and storing all necessary paperwork.
  • Collaborating closely with the Director of Operations to ensure that all locations, facilities, materials and lunches are reflective of camp needs and are finalized.

On Season

  • Oversee the scaling of operations during the summer, managing a large and dynamic team.
  • Ensure strong logistics, planning, and organization, paying meticulous attention to detail.
  • Maintain composure in high-pressure situations and ensure preparedness for unforeseen circumstances.
  • Complete weekly camp reports, tracking parent complaints, and adjusting operations accordingly.
  • Monitor camp KPI metrics throughout operational weeks.
  • Ensure the smooth execution of fundraising events and after-camp hour activities.
  • Direct, mentor, and guide both full-time permanent and seasonal staff.
  • Ensure that all standard operating procedures are met and exceeded.
  • Oversee the management of escalated situations from parents and staff.
  • Crisis management and creative thinking when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments and external partners to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Child Development, Psychology, CRLT or related field.
  • Extensive director-level experience in a management role within a camp or educational setting.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Crisis management experience and the ability to handle high-pressure situations.
  • Passion for working with children and contributing to their positive experiences.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $70,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
