Position Summary

Loyalist College’s LINKS Youth Programs (Leadership Initiation for New Knowledge and Skills) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Summer Camp Facilitators to play a pivotal role in creating an engaging, safe, and fun learning environment for campers aged 6-8 focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM), leadership, and personal development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education or a related field, excellent communication skills, and a passion for creating spaces where all youth feel like they can be their true selves.

The Summer Camp Facilitator positions are essential to the LINKS Youth Summer Camp, delivering camp curriculum/activities and supervising the classroom (youth/counselors/LIT Leader in Training Legacy Lab participants) and protect the safety of campers through hands-on learning and guidance.

Three Facilitator positions are required each week of Summer Camps. The Facilitator positions are flexible, and the Facilitator can work 1 to 6 weeks throughout the program to meet their individual schedule although priority will be given to candidates who can commit to the full summer program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery and Execution: Adapt and lead daily camp activities, workshops, and projects that are educational, engaging, and age-appropriate, with a focus on STEAM and personal development
  • Camper Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive camp environment, encouraging participation, creativity, and exploration among campers; Assisting campers with the completion of activities and staying on task; be adaptable to changing situations
  • Classroom Management: Ensure curriculum is adapted to meet each individual camper where they are at, and supporting positive behaviors where necessary
  • Safety and Well-being: Monitor campers to ensure a safe environment at all times, promptly addressing any health or safety concerns; Manage daily supervision of campers at various academic, behavioral, and physical levels as required; Adhere to safety protocols
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Camp Counselors, LITs and other staff to coordinate activities and share best practices for youth engagement and education
  • Team Communication: be the first line of communication with staff, campers and parents/guardians; Complete administrative tasks as required (e.g. attendance, reporting incidents)
  • Feedback and Evaluation: Collect feedback from campers and contribute to the evaluation of camp programs to ensure continuous improvement

Job Requirements

  • Must have or be able to produce a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Experience (or training) working with children and classroom management (e.g. Ontario College of Teachers certified)
  • Excellent positive communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire youth
  • Creative thinker with the ability to design and implement engaging activities
  • First Aid/CPR, high five and/or leadership in training certification is an asset
  • Working Conditions:
  • This position requires availability throughout the Summer Camp duration (July/August), with activities taking place both indoors and outdoors. Flexibility to work with various age groups is preferred.
