Position Summary

Through the development and implementation of Athletic programs on and off campus, the Campus Recreation and Fitness Coordinator provides programming in the areas of recreation, fitness, and athletic camps. Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Coordinator is responsible for scheduling, organizing, and supervising athletic programs and operations in the following areas of emphasis: intramurals; extramurals; Campus Recreation; outdoor recreation; strength and conditioning; athletic camps, fitness and wellness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Campus Recreation


  • Designs, implements, and facilitate sports and activities in the areas of intramurals; extramurals; Campus Recreation; outdoor recreation; and Fitness and wellness for various campuses
  • Assess the needs of the student population, both domestic and International, and ensure the athletic activities reflect the diversity of student needs and interests on a semester basis
  • Maintains and tracks the equipment and supply needs for non-varsity athletics and works collaboratively with Director to control, monitor, and distribute equipment and supplies as required
  • Works collaboratively with student staff to run various Campus Recreation and Fitness activities
  • Offers training during orientation weeks and promotion during school events.
  • Promotes and markets Athletics activities (including intramural, extramurals, Campus Recreation, outdoor recreation, and Fitness and wellness programs) to students, staff, and community members
  • Acts as a College Representative for Any committee or group that governs college recreational athletics activities
Fitness Centre Coordination
  • Assists with recruiting, training, and assigning tasks to student staff and volunteers
  • Develops and implements schedules for student staff
  • Provides basic maintenance and safety checks of all equipment in coordination with the Director
  • Coordinates with outside providers to service equipment
  • Prepares inventory and usage reports for the Director
  • Tracks client participation and facility use and generate regular statistical reports for the Director
  • Facilitates sign-up of staff, students, and maintenance of any website and/or applications used
  • Educates students/staff on proper lifting techniques as well as critique and supervise their use of free weight equipment-based and body-weight resistive exercise
  • Provides consultation and resources in the areas of conditioning, nutrition, fitness and exercise
  • Provides research to the Director on industry best practices and advancements
Summer Athletic Camp
  • Organizes, plans, and is responsible for athletic summer camp programming
  • In collaboration with the Director, recruits staffing for camp
  • Oversees and provides mentorship and support for camp staff
  • Organizes registration process and signup for camps

Qualifications

  • Completion of a minimum two (2) year diploma/degree in fitness, recreation, sport/community psychology, health promotion or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a post-secondary and/or education environment coordinating athletics programming and events; experience working with youth/young adults and summer camps considered an asset.
  • Personal training and/or Strength and Conditioning certificate considered an asset
  • First Aid and CPR required
  • Working knowledge of common computer software
  • Experience and knowledge in athletics program investigation, development, implementation and review
  • Experience with a variety of sports and their respective sport regulating bodies
  • Ability to work effectively with in a diverse environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively listening to ensure understanding of needs and responding to those needs in a professional manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to manage and organize time effectively
  • Valid drivers license with clean drivers abstract
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to commencement of employment
