Canada Connects Coordinator

Purpose of Position
To facilitate the compatible matching of newcomers to volunteers, and to organize group activities within the Canada Connects program mandate. Responsible for the promotion of the program, as well as the recruitment, screening, and management of program participants (newcomers and volunteers), arranging and overseeing matches, and organizing group activities.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a social services field, or equivalency in work and experience
- Experience in, or knowledge of volunteer recruitment and management
- Knowledge of community resources and services
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks
- Website maintenance experience and expertise
- Comfortable with poster design and creative client engagement
- Expertise in writing and editing press releases, newsletter and communications materials
- Knowledge and expertise in the use of Microsoft office and other office related software
- Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant communities
- Experience in community outreach, event planning and promotion
- Demonstrated ability to conduct workshops, presentations, and meetings
- Fluency in other languages in common with our client base
- Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills and ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- 3 to 5 years lived immigrant experience in our community
- Ability to motivate and enjoy working with people; energetic, creative, and flexible
- Valid Ontario drivers license and ability to drive in all weather
Duties
- Recruit eligible newcomers, screen, select and orient them to the Canada Connects program
- Recruit, screen and train new community volunteers
- Set up compatible newcomer-volunteer matches; including follow-up as indicated or required
- Collect feedback from program participants and respond as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing support and communication to all participants
- Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate Canada Connects group events in coordination with Program Coordinator
- Build opportunities to encourage informal language learning outside the classroom
- Develop and implement outreach strategies and work with staff in program/service development
- Ensure the maintenance, accuracy and up-keep of all client and volunteer files and records and maintain a computer database that will record all matches and activities
- Plan and implement volunteer recognition events
- Responsible for marketing programs and larger events
- Take part in agency promotional activities and organize Canada Connects program promotional initiatives within the community
- Develop and deliver general orientation sessions
- Provide orientation and ongoing training and skill development of volunteers to address program needs as they arise.
Other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator.

Salary: $25.75/h
