The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for two (2) permanent part-time Canteen Attendants (Wallaceburg Arena) in the Parks, Fleet and Facilities division.
Job description
Canteen attendants work at various arenas operating canteen equipment.
Essential responsibilities
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Operation of canteen equipment
- Maintain concession and equipment in an organized, clean manner at all times
- Keep items well stocked and displayed in an appealing and organized manner
- Prepare food and drink products using proper food handling techniques
- Clean and sanitize concession thoroughly before leaving
- Sell tickets for public skating
- Perform and reconcile all cash handling duties as required
Essential qualifications
- Because of the responsibilities of this position, applicants must be 15 years of age or older
- 1 -24 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekends as required
- All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required
Other qualifications
- Food service background and knowledge in the concession industry would be an asset
- Knowledge of cash registers and reconciliation of cash would be an asset
Certifications, memberships, licenses
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification an asset
- Food Handling Certificate an asset
Work environment/hours of work
- This position works indoors
- This position works afternoon, evening and weekend hours

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Background check requirements
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment; you must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check
Essential physical and/or safety requirements
- This position works with hot areas (i.e. fryers, grills, etc.)
- Walking: constant walking on level surface
- Standing: frequent standing inside (customer service, food preparation)
- Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement)
Benefits
This permanent part-time position has an hourly wage of $16.55 to $17.00 will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
