Role and Objectives:

The Apprentice Carpenter under the direction of the Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for all tasks as assigned ensuring following safe work procedures and practices.

Responsibilities:

· Assist the Journeyman Carpenter as directed

· Use of power tools like drills, saws, routers

· Installing insulation and membranes

· Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations

· Lay building foundations.

· Confirm trueness of structures, with a plumb bob and level.

· Framing including doors and windows.

· May be required to build trestles, bridges towers and other structures.

· Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.

· Keep a daily log of tasks.

· Respect and respond to direction given.

· Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System.

· Set up scaffolding as needed.

· Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed.

· Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed own limitations.

· Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.

· Other duties as required

Requirements:

· Completion of second- or third-year level of Carpenter Apprenticeship is considered an asset

· Extensive knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and practices used in the carpentry trade

· Extensive knowledge of the qualities of various woods and their adaptability and uses

· Knowledge of the proper application of wood and metal studs in framework

· Knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices

· Good working knowledge of current construction methods, materials, procedures, drawings, specifications and building codes

· Demonstrated interpersonal and team building skills

· Ability to work efficiently with a service-oriented attitude, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy under stressful situations with constant interruption

· Effectively manages time, responsibilities, and priorities

Work Conditions:

· Job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project.

· Requires ability to climb ladders and/or work at heights up to 60 feet and crawl for distances of 50 feet.

· Job requires ability to work with tools, lumber, and other materials.

· Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs. for 50 feet is required.

· Use of Personal Protective Equipment will be required (e.g., hard hat, safety boots, etc.).

· Hazards associated with the construction industry.

Salary: $30.50-$33.50 per hour
