Carpenter (General Repair Technician GRT)

Carpenters (GRT) at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state GRTs use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a GRT.

Responsible for…

The multi-talented GRT is skilled in the following ways:

· Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts

· Framing

· Drywalling, mudding, sanding and finishing

· Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim, landscapes, and portraiture not included)

· Ceiling installation, knockdown and texturing

· Insulation and vapour barrier installation

· Being awesome, in general!

· Installation

· Doors

· Trim, moldings, and baseboards

· Hardware installation

· Cabinetry

What you bring

The GRT brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

· Experience working in construction environments

· Tools and the skills to use them

· Strong people and communication skills

· Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do

· A safety mindset

· Valid drivers license

· Ability to pass a criminal record check

· Ability to communicate in English

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

· Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)

· IICRC certification (restoration focus)

· WHMIS

· First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• On call

• Do you have basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience?
• Will you practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite: Work with a "clean as you go" mentality?
• Are you capable of: Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 35-65% of the time) • Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time)?
• Are you willing to learn and help other departments if needed: including Water Damage Technicians and demolition? This position requires teamwork and helping others.

Experience:

• home renovation: 1 year (preferred)
• finish carpentry: 3 years (preferred)
• installation of insulation and vapor barrier: 1 year (preferred)
• wood and steel stud framing: 1 year (preferred)
• set up of poly containment and drop sheets: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• Canadian Driver's License (required)
