Purpose of position:
To assist the unemployed/displaced in the Windsor Essex County area through individual and group employment/vocational counselling and to provide individualized employment preparation services and job development/placement within established UHC program guidelines and objectives.
Key Responsibility Area:
Programs:
a) Schedule and conduct general information sessions, as well as, individual client interviews to assess and identify client needs/strengths, barriers and determine suitability for program/service access and eligibility.
b) Complete client intake and case summary forms and maintain relevant information on Pre-Apprenticeship for Cooks participants.
c) Develop and document individual client action plans to ensure client needs are being addressed via UHC program rationale and objectives.
d) Conduct and maintain follow-up procedures to update client status and activity within established guidelines. Document pertinent information on all files within client caseload.
e) Input client data into computer database program.
f) Distribute program evaluations to participants to assess the effectiveness of program delivery and development. Advise supervisor of any issues or recommendations.

Operations:
a) Provide individual and group employment counselling and support services to participants to assist with employment preparation skills training, job search strategies, labour market information, employment opportunities, resume writing skills, etc.
b) Provide individualized job development, job shadowing/trials and subsidized job placement services with eligible clients. Promote the UHC’s Job Development Placement Services with employers/businesses within the community and Essex County.
c) Provide inter-agency advocacy, liaison and referral services to assist clients in resolving Social Services, E.I. and various creditor difficulties.
d) Facilitate 3 week in-class training for the Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This includes testing and final exam.
e) Ensure communication on client progress is maintained with referral agencies and appropriate release of information forms are complete. Provide written client profile summaries when required.
f) Attend seminars and workshops. Promote program awareness within community through agency presentations, network meetings, Help Fairs, etc.
g) Participate in UHC fundraising activities as required.
h) All other assigned duties.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
a) B.A./B.S.W. or two years related experience in individual and group counselling.
b) Career Development Practitioner certification
c) Certification to deliver Smart Serve, Managing Food Safety and Service Excellence
d) Excellent organizational and communication skills.
e) Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
f) Knowledge of E.I., General Welfare Act, and other related community based training programs.
g) Knowledge of labour force requirements and labour market information.
h) Valid driver's licence and vehicle.
i) Accredited Job Club Certificate or Social Welfare Certificate an asset.
j) Must acquire a certified criminal record and vulnerable sector check from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)

Salary: $28.20 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
