Community Hub Assistant – Facilities I (Cleaner)

Working with the Thunder Bay Public Library and the Community

PURPOSE:

To ensure TBPL offers a safe and clean environment for patrons and staff utilizing proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques during regular visits and/or programs.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Vacuuming of rugs, washing of floors, cleaning of sinks and toilets, unclogging minor drain issues, emptying of waste paper baskets and removing garbage and recycling to ensure facilities are safe, comfortable and welcoming to the community.

2. Dusting, cleaning and polishing of furniture, bookshelves and books to sustain a healthy and aesthetically appealing Library.

3. Cleaning of windows and glass, watering of plants, and other cleaning duties to ensure the Community Hub is welcoming to the community.

4. Assists with the upkeep of grounds to sustain the safe, aesthetic environment of the Community Hub.

5. Performs other duties including but not limiting to garbage removal and pick up (exterior), cleaning/washing of carpets, steam cleaning furniture and floors.

6. May be required to open and close buildings.

7. Facilitates the implementation of change and innovation including actively participating in working groups to further strategic initiatives.

8. Promotes and embeds the community led service philosophy in collaboration with patrons, staff and partners to meet the needs of the community.

9. Adheres to the policies, procedures and standards, as identified by the TBPL Board to ensure compliance with City by-laws, and all relevant provincial and federal legislative requirements.

MASTERY:

The position requires:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge, experience and skills that are up to date and relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Records Check.
  • Candidates will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law.
