Position Title: Category Coordinator

Team and Location:  Retail - Calgary, AB 

Salary from: $54,000/year 

Position Summary:  The role of the Category Coordinator is to support the Category Manager in executing the strategic marketing plan to maximize convenience store sales and revenue. The Category Coordinator will be responsible for managing site communications, executing promotions, conducting analysis, collaborating with vendors, administrating cost and price changes, supporting the development of planograms, marketing strategies and special projects focusing on the Nicotine category along with other traditional convenience store categories.  The role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide-range of stakeholders including vendors, retailers, territory managers, and other internal and external groups.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to day-to-day issues from operations & merchandising, assisting with the timely action and resolution of all matters pertaining to the category.
  • Prepare and distribute communications for Retailers and Operations for all category related topics
  • Collaborate with vendors, wholesaler distributors, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and flawless promotional execution.
  • Manage new product listings, discontinued items, price changes, and automatic distributions to retail locations.
  • Assist in vendor meetings and negotiations.
  • Implement the category plan with the team to grow convenience store sales and margins.
  • Support in developing and communicating planograms
  • Analyze cost, pricing, and sales data; make recommendations aligned with the category strategy and business objectives.
  • Prepare and update weekly, monthly, & quarterly performance reports as required
  • Conduct ad-hoc performance analysis in support of projects and management requests.
  • Assist in the development of marketing strategies and special projects as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • University degree/College diploma in Business or Marketing would be an asset, but a relevant diploma and/or experience would also be considered.
  • Experience in Category/Merchandising &/or Consumer Packaged Goods particularly in C&G or retail is an asset
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail, resourcefulness, analytical thinking, and the ability to prioritize & manage time under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions when required that would align with the category strategy & category manager’s business objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong time management, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Bilingualism (French and English, oral and written) is strongly preferred
