Salary Job Title Supervisor’s Position Location
$140,000 CEO NFDC Board of Directors Iqaluit, Nunavut

PURPOSE

This position will:

  • Implement the Nunavut Film Development Corporation’s (NFDC) Strategic Plan and fulfill the organization’s operational mandate
  • Actively represent the interests of NFDC while promoting and assisting in the development of the screen-based industry
  • Provide effective management and administration of the activities of NFDC
  • Undertake various projects and partnerships that will benefit NFDC, the industry and the development of industry capacity in Nunavut
  • Ensure that decisions of the Board of Directors are carried out in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Provide leadership and advocacy in the expression of the vision of NFDC.

TERM

The term for this position is negotiable but shall not be less than two years.

SCOPE

The Chief Executive Officer supports the Board of Directors in the following areas:

  • Management and administration of the Nunavut Film office
  • Liaison with key government and industry stakeholders
  • Project Management
  • Actively seeking additional funding sources to advance NFDC objectives
  • Partnership development and media relations (in Nunavut and beyond)
  • Records and financial management
  • Gathering and sharing information on the sector/industry
  • Organization of & secretariat at various meetings

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of the NFDC Office

  • Develop an annual work plan linked to the Strategic Plan
  • Maintain effective operations of the NFDC office
  • Ensure appropriate stewardship of the NFDC assets and resources
  • Provide timely information, advice and recommendations to the Board of
  • Directors, as required
  • Maintain a professional manner and appropriate levels of confidentiality
  • Build a positive image for NFDC as an organization and industry representative.

Project Management

  • Act as a point of contact for NFDC.
  • Provide support to various partnerships and promote collaboration.
  • Address inquiries to NFDC and act, as appropriate.
  • Maintain good relationships with government and the industry.

Financial Management

  • Actively seek additional funding sources to advance NFDC objectives
  • Maintain in good order the financial records of NFDC
  • Prepare draft annual budgets and operating plans for Board
  • approval
  • Arrange for any bookkeeping and audits that may be required
  • Brief the Board of Directors on the organization’s financial status.

Liasson and Partnerships

  • Act as the chief point of contact for NFDC
  • Develop appropriate partnerships and promote collaboration
  • Address inquiries to NFDC and take action, as appropriate
  • Provide advocacy and policy support to the industry
  • Maintain good relationships with government and the industry.

Records management

  • Maintain in good order all records of NFDC activities, including minutes of meetings, correspondence, financial records, legal affairs, etc
  • Maintain current and accurate systems and records for grants programs and other funding provided by or through NFDC.

Gathering and Sharing Information

  • Actively network with key contacts and organizations to represent the interests of the NFDC and to stay apprised of industry issues and activities within the Territory and beyond
  • Monitor and gather published information concerning the Nunavut screen-based industry that may be of interest to NFDC
  • Inform the board and stakeholders of any new information that may be of interest or concern to them

Organization of Meetings

  • Provide logistical support for the organization of NFDC meetings, including
  • Board of Directors’ Meetings and Annual General Meetings
  • Prepare and circulate draft agendas for all NFDC meetings and attend as appropriate and where required take, prepare and distribute minutes of the meetings
  • Provide necessary follow-up, as needed.

Coordination of Events and Activities

  • Design and coordinate industry building events/activities
  • Maintain effective communications with all stakeholders
  • Build local, national and international networks to promote Nunavut.

Media Relations

  • Monitor the media for articles that may be of interest to NFDC and distribute such articles as appropriate.
  • Arrange any media briefings, interviews, press conferences, etc. that NFDC may decide to hold and attend those of other industry stakeholders.

Other

  • Perform other duties as appropriate, from time-to-time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:

  • Self-starter with strong motivation
  • Strong proposal writing and project management skills
  • Strong presentation and networking skills
  • Solid knowledge of the screen-based industry
  • Proven ability to deal simultaneously with multiple files and tasks
  • Ability to think strategically and translate goals into operational objectives
  • Ability to work in a politically sensitive environment
  • Ability to work independently and in partnership with others
  • Ability to build rapport with wide array of stakeholders and interests
  • Strong experience working with the industry and government
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to Nunavut and Inuit issues
  • Good analytical, writing and communication skills
  • Good computer skills and the ability to run an effective office including financial and records management.

The following assets are desirable:

  • Fluency in Inuktut
  • Experience and knowledge of the screen-based industry
  • Knowledge of granting programs and related processes
  • Demonstrated communication and relationship building skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $140,000.00 per year
