CHIEF MINE GEOLOGIST
CENTRAL NL

JOB DESCRIPTION:
HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Chief Mine Geologist on behalf of our client, Marathon Gold. The ideal candidate would have 15+ years of mine operation experience with a minimum of 5 years at management level.

Reporting to the VP, Canadian Operations, the Chief Mine Geologist is responsible for leading and safely directing the Mine Geology Team to support geology-related activities at the mine. This pivotal role oversees and manages critical functions, including grade control, RC drilling, sampling, reconciliations, and associated budgeting. This position holds the key responsibility of optimizing return on investment while aligning with specific site objectives and broader corporate goals.

This position is located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Governance:

  • Develop and maintain ongoing internal and external collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Implement and support policies, procedures and legislative requirements, and monitor compliance.

Health, Safety, and Environment:

  • Promote a culture where health, safety and environment are always the highest priority.
  • Promote the completion and tracking of proper safety training for employees and ensure the tools are in place for employees to complete their work safety and legislative requirements are met.

Operation:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee an effective and transparent grade control program.
  • Responsible for the production reconciliation program.
  • Accountable for safe, timely, and on-budget execution of production related drilling programs.
  • Accountable for the company's production related drillhole and sample management system.
  • Assist with and facilitate geology activities.
  • Functional leader for Mineral Reserve and Resource estimates, including results certification.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the Life of Mine plan.
  • Facilitate inter-departmental coordination to ensure clear and open communication.
  • Develop and communicate long term operational objectives and establish metrics to track and manage performance.

Budgets and Resource Management:

  • Responsible to develop and manage the departmental budget by identifying efficiencies and improving processes by monitoring economic conditions and opportunities as well as tracking and acting on cost reductions which are not detrimental to the long-term business performance.
  • Ensure the appropriate allocation of operating and capital costs to achieve business plans through the annual budget process and monthly review of costs and budget variances.
  • Review and provide directions on future equipment and labour requirements.

Leadership Development:

  • Establish and support a culture of respect, accountability, transparency, inclusion, and prosperity.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and key performance indicators for members of the team.
  • Ensure the career and succession plan is promoted and supported by providing training and development programs are implemented to develop talent at all levels.
  • Assess performance on an on-going basis and ensure training needs are identified.
  • Encourage interdepartmental collaboration and establish a culture of continuous improvement across the operation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences or Geological Engineering or post-Secondary completion in a related field of study.
  • Possess 15+ years of mine operation experience with a minimum of 5 years at management level.
  • Prior experience with open pit start-ups and gold mining are assets.
  • Registered Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer, or eligible to obtain.
  • Experience in a remote work site.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ATTRIBUTES:

  • In-depth knowledge of RC drilling, blast hole sampling, grade control systems, and reconciliation programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NL health, safety and environmental acts, and legislation relating to mining operations.
  • A proven leader who has a track record of building a culture of safety, inclusion, and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and coach personnel to support career growth.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments across the organization and build strong relationships.
  • Proven analytical skills that can quickly assess and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is essential in presenting, communicating, and interacting with stakeholders and at all levels of management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and experience in using advance consolidation and reporting tools, e.g. SAP, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • A valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract required.
