Job description

Reporting to the Manager of Children's Health, the Child Life Specialist will provide individual Paediatric patient support. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, developing and implementing programs promoting growth and development to prevent adverse reactions to hospitalization. The Child Life Specialist may provide support to parents and patients during medical procedures as well as administer, observe and interpret various developmental assessment tests and other measures; in addition to providing education, information and resources for parents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Undergraduate degree in Child Life Studies, Child Psychology, Child/Adolescent Development, Child & Family Social Sciences, Education or a related discipline.
o Child Life Certification, or within a year. Current membership with the Child Life Council.
o Experience developing and administering assessments, individual treatment plans and therapeutic programming.
o CPR and First Aid certification.
o Must have recent experience in providing Paediatric patient support within the last two (2) years.
o Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to relay complex information and relate effectively with patients (of all ages and backgrounds), and health care professionals in a calm and professional manner.
o Demonstrated professionalism and community relations skills while dealing with the public (patients and families), as well as various medical and non-medical professionals.
o Applies NH values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Evidence of effective organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment, critical thinking and decision making skills.
o Ability to work effectively within an inter-disciplinary team, is self-directed, and is able to work with minimal supervision.
o Proficiency in the use of computer applications including Microsoft Office.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
