Job description

Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction – Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario
The Senior Estimator will play a key role in our client’s pre-construction process, responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with civil engineering projects. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the successful candidate will leverage their expertise to produce detailed and comprehensive estimates for various types of civil projects, including road construction, bridge rehabilitation, and utility installations.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Estimator and project stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other technical documents to determine scope of work and materials required.

  • Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and cost estimations for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.

  • Develop strategic and competitive bidding strategies for each project, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.

  • Prepare detailed and timely bid proposals, including the submission of all necessary documentation and bid forms.

  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and other project-related activities as required.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting the heavy civil construction sector.

  • Peer review, and mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators, fostering their professional growth and development.


Qualifications:
 

  • Degree or Diploma in civil engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, estimating, or related field and/or proven progressive working experience.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience as an Estimator in local heavy civil infrastructure projects.

  • Proven track record of producing accurate cost estimates for conventionally bid projects, design-build initiatives, and alternative delivery project models.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to perform accurate quantity take-offs and cost calculations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in estimating software (ie. HeavyBid, Bid2Win) and MS Office suite.

  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
