Job description

Position: Civil Estimator / Project Manager

Location: Alberta

Type: Full Time, Hourly

The Civil Estimator / Project Manager is responsible for the estimating, overall contract administration, and execution of Civil Construction, Mid Stream and Downstream Pipeline Integrity projects both in office and on project sites. This position is accountable for project safety, quality, project resources, and performance while maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships. Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze contract documents (drawings, specifications, contract deliverables, etc.) to prepare self-perform cost estimates of projects
  • Assemble accurate, timely and well-organized estimates, including hard-bid, construction management and design-build.
  • Prepare quantity take offs.
  • Develop schedule for accuracy and determine production rates.
  • Prepare and administer subcontractor material and vendor RFQs
  • Contact subcontractors and vendors for specific divisions to get external pricing.
  • Monitor the success of a project, noting potential challenges and building relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities.
  • Identify potential project risks.
  • Attend pretender meetings & site visits, where applicable.
  • Work with proposal & operations teams in writing execution methodology, safety plans, Indigenous Engagement Strategies, and quality documentation.
  • Present Estimate to management for Review at 50% and 100% complete
  • Responsible for all aspects of management throughout the life cycle of the project, including but not limited to implementation of corporate HSE program, scheduling, quality control, risk management, and effective utilization of resources
  • Ensure project compliance with overall client requirements and specifications
  • Provide general oversite and guidance for the project team through regular feedback, training, and coaching
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts by providing cost analysis and monitoring the contract budget versus the scope of work to identify and manage change when present
  • Create and disseminate regular progress reports
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
  • Assist with the coordination of equipment, materials, and manpower throughout project life cycle
  • Change order management on lump sum projects
  • Other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management or Estimating would be an asset
  • PMP Designation would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of Project Management and Field Experience
  • 5+ years of civil construction experience, specifically in the areas of Industrial, Pipeline Integrity and Estimating
  • 3-5 years of related estimating experience
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and reliable with a positive disposition
  • Good communicator with attention to detail and good documentation skills
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
