About the role

We’re looking for a Claims Manager, Casualty to join our growing team!

As a Claims Manager, Casualty, you will lead a team of Unit Managers responsible for managing the day to day casualty operations.  Your claims experience and strive for excellence will help you successfully manage the day-to-day operations of your teams. What you'll do here:   

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of your teams to achieve essential business goals and meet customer service expectations. 
  • Work closely with your Director to develop strategies, long term and short-term plans to facilitate ongoing work, process improvement, customer relations and other functions.
  • Develop and implement in collaboration with others strategic business plans to achieve key business goals relating to indemnity control, technical excellence, engagement and recruitment.
  • Monitor financial performance and productivity and report observations, progress, and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Provide effective leadership, motivate staff and be responsible for coaching unit managers on technical and professional skills and delivering performance feedback.
  • Develop, recommend and implement management and organizational initiatives to support company strategies including changes to organizational structure and process/technology improvements.
  • Liaise with national Claim Managers, Casualty on technical and administrative issues.
  • Act in a consultative and advisory capacity with unit managers and teams and provide your expertise on claims matters including policy interpretation, liability and quantum determination, and settlement negotiation.

What you bring to the table:

  • University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role
  • Experience  with liability claims.
  • Completed or working towards a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation/s, CFE or CRM designations (preferred).
  • Proven leadership skills with experience coaching and mentoring.

  • Positive attitude while adapting to changing priorities and taking ownership of work.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership, project management and change management skills .
  • Ability to multitask and juggle competing priorities.
  • Advanced analytical and decision-making skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance legislative framework in all Atlantic provinces.
