Job description

Summary

The individual in this position; reports to the Hatchery Manager NS and is required to pick up and deliver hatching eggs as well as deliver live day-old chicks to customers across the Maritime Provinces. The truck driver's position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift weights of up to 45lbs (20.4kgs) for extended periods during the loading and unloading of the truck.

The position requires individuals with a valid Class 1 Driver’s license. Previous experience and a proven commendable record driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, hauling live product as well as experience in keeping drivers' logs is preferred.

The truck must be cleaned and disinfected after deliveries are completed each day. As part of the vehicle maintenance the driver must do routine checks of lights, tires, fluid levels and oil. The Driver will follow the recommended service schedule and notify the Dispatcher or Hatchery Manager of any necessary repairs. The driver must work with the Dispatcher and Hatchery Manger on all maintenance and electronic logs.

Schedule

This is a full-time position working on average 40 hours a week. This position requires someone that can work a flexible rotating schedule including some weekends/holidays

Position Accountabilities


  • Handling of chicks and eggs with care
  • Secure loading and unloading of eggs, chicks, products
  • Completing and maintaining necessary paperwork and electronic logs
  • Deliver chicks to customers
  • Pick up and/or deliver chicks, eggs or supplies to barns as required
  • Cleaning and disinfection of delivery truck daily
  • Follow Hatchery and Road safety rules and guidelines
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential
  • Practice bio security protocol
  • Follow all safety processes and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements


  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Certification from recognized truck driving school or equivalent 3 years’ experience
  • Valid Class 1 Driver’s license & Current Drivers Abstract
  • Driver Logs / E-Logs
  • Defensive Driving Course an asset
  • Pleasant & outgoing personality with exceptional customer service skills is a must

  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with live poultry
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
  • Ability to work a flexible rotating schedule
