Cleaner (Full Time - Permanent)

Position: Cleaner

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Cleaner is accountable to the Property Manager at each assigned building.

FUNCTION

The Cleaner is responsible for keeping the interior and exterior of the building clean and sanitary.

DUTIES

The duties of the Cleaner fall under the following general categories:

1.Cleaning

· Cleans/mops/buffs floors

· Cleans common area glass windows and doors

· Sweeps/mops stairwells

· Cleans elevator

· Cleans all common area bathrooms, including all plumbing fixtures

· Cleans admin offices, not including common area kitchen

· Takes garbage out for pick up and brings bins back in

· Cleans and maintains laundry area

· Minor grounds maintenance, including sweeping and shoveling as required.

· Other cleaning duties as required

2.Inventory

· Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies, lets staff know when supply order is required

· Follows MSDS/WHMIS instructions and procedures

3.Building

· Calls maintenance worker in case of maintenance emergency

· Allows emergency people (fire, police, ambulance) into the building if required

· Makes note of potential maintenance problems and reports them to maintenance staff

· The specific duties include:

Entrance and Lobby

· Sweep and wash floors

· Clean both sides of glass in entrance door and partitions

· Empty waste containers

· Vacuum carpets

Elevators

· Wash exterior doors and frames

· Wash interior metal bright-works of cabs to remove finger marks, smudges, stains etc., including control panel and ceiling

· Sweep and wash floors

Laundry Room

· Sweep and wash floor

· Wipe machines

· Empty waste containers

Public Washrooms

· Sweep floor

· Wash floor with a germicidal solution

· Wash both sides of the toilet seat, interior and exterior of bowls and wash basins with a germicidal solution

· Empty waste containers and insert plastic bag

· Clean and disinfect all water taps, dispensers, doorplates and the exterior of waste containers and paper dispensers

· Clean flush tanks, mirrors and exposed piping

· Clean walls as necessary as well as partitions and doors to remove finger marks, graffiti and other marks

· Replenish toilet paper and paper towels in dispensers

Janitorial Rooms

· Wash mops

· Clean and neatly store equipment

· Ensure door is locked at all times

· Ensure WHMIS requirements are in place

Corridors and Elevator Lobbies

• All floors of the building to be visually checked and if necessary:

· Sweep floors in front of elevators

· Wash using a germicidal or neutral detergent

· Vacuum carpets

Stairs and Landings

· All floors of the building to be visually checked and if necessary:

· Sweep and mop stairs and landings

Exterior (around the building) Offices

· Pick up litter

Offices

· Sweep and mop floors, dust furniture, empty waste containers

Requirements

· Some experience working in residential buildings preferred

· Experience working with marginalized communities

· Reliable transportation to commute to work location

· Ability to handle difficult situations in a calm manner

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $24.95 per hour
