The Legislative Assembly of Manitoba seeks a Clerk Assistant / Committee Clerk who will play a significant role providing information and advice to MLAs from all parties, offices of the Assembly, government and opposition staff, media and the public. The incumbent is a non-partisan employee of the Legislative Assembly, not a government employee.

  • You must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including working outside of standard office hours.

Qualifications:
Your Essential Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in a relevant field, or an appropriate combination of education, skills and experience appropriate to the position
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills
  • The ability to exercise sound judgment and deal effectively with challenging situations
  • Strong organizational, logistical, and time management skills
  • The ability to work on a team as well as independently with minimum supervision
  • The ability to adapt to change and identify and resolve problems to complex situations

Your Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the administration of public meetings
  • Experience working with and interpreting legislation, regulations, parliamentary precedents and statutes
  • Knowledge of Manitoba political history
  • Fluency in the French language

Duties:
What You’ll Do
In your role as a Clerk Assistant within the Legislative Chamber and in Committees, and as an indispensable member of a dynamic team comprising six Legislative Clerks, you will contribute essential procedural, administrative, and logistical support to the Assembly, including:

  • Serving as a Clerk-at-the-Table in the Legislative Chamber during sittings of the Assembly
  • Effectively administering in person and virtual Standing Committee and Committee of Supply meetings in accordance with the rules and practices of the House
  • Providing advice to Members of the Assembly regarding parliamentary procedures and practices
  • Conducting and collaborating on a wide range of procedural research tasks
  • Collecting and managing rulings and precedents set by Speakers and Committee Chairpersons
  • Proposing new initiatives and participating in special projects and training
  • Liaising extensively with members of the public, elected officials and political staff
  • Demonstrating the utmost sensitivity, tact, integrity and good judgment
