Client Advocate

What you will do:

The Client Advocate will work on a multi-disciplinary team, providing clients with wraparound services that meet their non-legal social needs. They will directly support clients as they navigate various legal issues. Advocates may help clients access services for their social needs, such as housing and income. The Client Advocate may also provide domestic violence screens and support to individuals experiencing domestic violence.

Primary Duties:

• Conduct telephone and in-person client meetings to assess needs and offer support.
• Liaise with staff lawyers to assess client's legal situation and needs.
• Assist with external application forms as needed.
• Prepare and coach clients for attendance before court appearances and attend with them to provide emotional support.
• Domestic violence assessments and support
• Maintaining relationships with external partners to facilitate positive client referrals.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the issues facing people living in poverty and community service providers in the Edmonton and surrounding area;
• Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple demands;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and interest to work with a diverse client base;
• Ability to work independently and proactively as part of a team;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office, Dynamics or related legal and data management software; and,
• Preference will be given to those applicants with a human services degree, experience with delivery of community and legal service, and knowledge of Edmonton community resources.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $65,000.00-$72,000.00 per year
